Securing coverage on national TV for Blackpool Zoo

Securing coverage on national TV for Blackpool Zoo

Posted on 05 Apr 2024

When our client Blackpool Zoo had some exciting news to share we knew we had to think big. And, it doesn’t come much bigger than a slot on one of TV’s favourite morning chat shows.

With news of two elephant pregnancies at Blackpool Zoo, the first in their 52-year history, a story like this was destined to be on the box.

Working with our database of contacts, aligning the story to the right channel and audience, we got to work to secure exclusive coverage on ITV’s This Morning, a programme that has daily viewing figures of approximately 800k.

What goes into making it happen?

Regular meetings are key to hearing about what’s happening with a client’s brand, product or service, or, in this case animals! We're always in PR mode, thinking of potential angles and ideas on how a story can be told, ensuring it engages with the client’s target audience.

Paula Holden, Senior Account Manager at ICG says: “Once we had the go-ahead from Blackpool Zoo on the elephant pregnancies, it was all systems go to secure the perfect channel for this momentous story.

“When confirmation came in from This Morning’s production team, we got planning, ensuring all parties had the information needed ahead of the live event.

“Cut to the live broadcast to see how the feature unfolded… Ben Shephard, Cat Deeley and Dr Scott all talking about the elephants at Blackpool Zoo - we loved it.

“Watch this space for our next TV moment - we’re working with broadcast and print media to mark the milestones on the journey to the calves being born later this year."
